PrEP Access in the United States

PrEP remains under-utilized, particularly among communities who have the greatest unmet need for HIV prevention.

There are many barriers to PrEP in the U.S. that must be addressed in order expand access to PrEP to all people who can benefit. These barriers include low awareness of PrEP among providers and individuals need or want PrEP, stigma and discrimination, limited accessibility and availability of PrEP providers, medical mistrust, access to affordable health insurance, affordability of ancillary labs and clinical services associated with PrEP use, and social determinants of health, like poverty, housing instability, systemic racism, homophobia, and transphobia.
